The administrator must as a pre-requisite give you the privilege of "free user". A free user is able to use a pre-defined connection or to connect to any host as well.
To connect to any host:
Select Connection|Connect. The Connect dialog box is displayed.
Type in the correct I.P. address in the Host Name field.
Select the desired terminal type.
Select the terminal model.
Select Use SSL between PowerTerm Server and Host if applicable. The SSL Type and Show SSL Certificate are enabled.
a. Choose the appropriate SSL type.
b. Select Show SSL Certificate if desired.
Click Connect. The desired emulation screen appears.
Host Name: Specifies a host to which to connect. This can be an Internet address, an Internet node name, or a name that can be resolved by a host's file or a domain name server.
Terminal Type: Changes the currently supported emulation.
Terminal Model: Determines the ID returned by the emulation program to the host. Make sure you select an ID that the host application recognizes.
Choice of either one of the three fields depends on the emulation:
Terminal Name(VT): Overrides the Terminal Model value returned by the emulation program to the host. Make sure you select an ID that the host application recognizes.
LU Name(3270): Specifies a type of addressable unit in an SNA network.
Device Name(5250): Specifies the device to connect to.
Message Queue: Specifies to which AS/400 message queue exception messages should be sent. For example, the AS/400 may need to tell the printer to switch to another paper tray.(5250 only)
Message Library: Specifies which library contains the message queue for exception messages.(5250 only)
Use SSL between PowerTerm Server and Host: This field (which is related to above) determines whether to implement the SSL protocol between the server and the host.
SSL Type: Specifies the SSL protocol being implemented.
Show SSL Certificate: Determines whether to display to the user the SSL Certificate provided by the host.
